My Take:
I just discovered this by listening to an Alterered Images Peel Session take of "Think That It Might" which creeped me out as well as intrigued me. Stoked to find this on LP for $5 used, I found that song was recorded on Pinky Blue, however, it isn't by any means the stand-out track nor the single for this record. This album is fun and to prove it, the tune "I Could Be Happy" is one that would be later heard in the seminal 80s flick, Valley Girl. These guys coulda been something more, but, that's just the way it is i suppose. Check out the Happy Birthday LP too.

If this was released today, every stupid critic would lose their shit, give it 10 stars and would go on to say that this is what the world of music needs rights now. They might also call pin them as "Jawbreaker Wannabes." So, in saying that, bands that wanna sound like Jawbreaker should listen to this one.

My take:
I kinda have just been starting to get into the works of this mad man who calls himself Nash the Slash. I've heard him around (he's from Toronto afterall), then I seen him open for Gary Numan last October and things just haven't been the same since. This guy and this record are terribly underrated. His name can stand along Eno, Fripp and Lanois and he has the whole horror vibe thing goin' on...so, what's not to love? He likes doing covers too, which i'm still trying to understand why.

My take:
No Idea Records (who write wicked assed descriptions for stuff) sez: Limited to 1,000! Seven faster, more lo-fi demo songs, recorded prior to the "Meanderthal" album. But really, I think Torche is a band who get examined too much by people and critics alike. These dudes were just a bunch of guys from a band called "Floor" who play fun music. I don't think they are really "stoner rock" or trying to get into "that." Torche to me is a band who wants to play stuff they'd wanna hear...rockin' stuff. I'm a big fan of demos! GO!

River's Edge Soundtrack (1986)

My take:
This soundtrack has some bands that shoulda been (in my opinion) on more soundtracks in the '80s! Here you get the Wipers (WOW HOLY SHIT!!) with a cut from the impossible to find on wax "Land of the Lost" LP + one of my fave reverb drenched Agent Orange tunes ever, "Fire in the Rain." Plus you get tons o' Slayer, Fates Warning and an unreleased Burning Spear song to top it off. Rivers Edge was clearly Crispin Glovers finest film moment. You need to watch the movie probably more than you need this soundtrack..really!

Jay Reatard/Thee Oh Sees Tour Split (2008)

My take:
This was the tour split that i'm still waiting for from the Shattered Club that I paid $75 to be a part of it. I've only recieved the last album from Jay. Not sure how this got out, but I hope they didn't forget about me! ANYWAYS! 2 unbaked tracks here from Jay--one tune, Telephone Network Voltage is actually just a fetus of "Hiding in My Hole" a tune that would eventually show up on the D.O.A. 7" as part of the Jay Reatard Matador Singles Club. It's kinda cool to hear this demo, but it's just that. The other tune "Blank Blogs" sounds like a tribute to his peer from the Blank Dogs since it sounds like it could be a Blank Dogs tune. No vocals here, just melodic noise. Kinda has an Eno on crack feel to it.

Not so sure about those Oh See's tunes. Those dudes put too much constrasting material out there that I just lost interest in them quickly. They are contained in this .rar nonetheless.

My take:
Who don't totally lurve themselves some Grade? The band got back together (ever so briefly) last year to do a 2 song split with their pals BANE. This lineup contains the original "Magnets" line-up except for the drumming. Matt Richmond (St. Alvia Cartel) rocks it here. These 2 tracks are great, I coulda handled 8 more or so. Oh, the BANE songs are included here as well.

My take:
These guys are one of the Kiwi Pop giants who stood next and in amongst to The Bats, Tall Dwarves, The Clean & The Chills. You'll find no Death and the Maiden on this album but you will find some chilled out and underappreciated alt. rock. Lots more Kiwi rock to come on Blasted Mutants! This band almost reformed and were going to brought by Jay Reatard to North America for a tour. Too bad that will never happen now.

Blood Diner (movie)

This is some fun movie watchin' here!

It's a horror-comedy from 1987 that has an updated (remade) plot of Herschell Gordon "Godfather of Gore" Lewis immortal classick, BLOOD FEAST. This fun splatter fest was directed by Jackie Kong, an unknown who also did the fun Night Patrol with Linda Blair.

Now, the question--how can one watch this? As far as I know this is a VHS only release so far. I've obtained a version that apparently downloaded pretty fast. Lots of Blood Diner fans out there for sure!

My Take on the First Four EPs:
I kinda wanted to hate this thing..I mean I think Keith Morris is cool and all and his unrelenting involvement in punk is admirable. I also wanted to hate it even more once Pitchfork got their stinkin' claws in it and acted as though they discovered the fuckin' band. After more listens, it is just undeniably kick ass.
